Sarracenia purpureaThe Botanical Ninja
Sarracenia purpurea is the cute short girl of the American Pitcher Plants. It produces colorful stout pudgy pitchers and can have lots of veins. This plant is lovely to watch grow and very cold tolerant. It normally keeps its pitchers throughout the winter especially if you live in a mild climate, but can survive through freezing temperatures in the winter.
Grow like any other Sarracenia in a mix of peat moss and pumice. Clean sand such as horticultural sand can be added as well. Water via tray method.
"The fat purple guys" according to The Carnivore Girl are some of the best Sarracenia to grow for beginners. They're cute and pudgy and they catch bugs.
